A compact screening path for DVP controllers and expansion modules. It narrows the field; it does not replace final engineering approval.

Supply and signal voltage

Record PLC supply, input type, output load and isolation expectations. A 24 V DC controller supply does not establish compatibility with every field device or relay coil.

Point count and performance

Separate digital, analog, temperature, high-speed counter and pulse outputs. Add documented expansion headroom rather than choosing only against the current total.

Mounting and environment

Confirm DIN-rail space, enclosure IP rating, internal temperature, vibration and wiring access. Compact equipment may need conservative derating where ventilation is limited.

Protocol and market

Define serial or Ethernet topology, Modbus addressing and destination market. UL, CE or RoHS documentation is requested for the exact series, not inferred from the brand.

Evidence package

The shortlist is checked against a current datasheet, programming manual, expansion compatibility table and applicable declaration or certificate. For replacement work, add the original program, firmware context and terminal drawing.

Centralized or distributed?

A centralized controller makes program governance and common spares direct, but increases field wiring and can concentrate failures. Distributed control improves local autonomy and fault isolation, but adds network configuration, module power and maintenance complexity. Quick Select records cable distance, failure behavior and service capability so the topology follows the application rather than a default preference.
